We would like to thank everyone who showed up and participated in our last meeting on February 3, 2010! For those of you that were not able to make it out to the last meeting, we went over and voted on activities that we will be doing this February as well as planning for a Culture Show/Cambodian Cultural Night.

Things that we shot down were the fund raising idea to sell chocolate roses for Valentine’s Day week, Clubbing social event, and Cambodian’s New Year fund raising.  And new business that were brought up were the cultural show, and had two volunteered committees whom are Chantrae Chhin and Samontha Tom. Anyone who would also like to be a part of the Cultural Show Night committee or just participate in the Cambodian Cultural Night show, please email us promptly.

During the meeting we voted on what team building activities we would be doing at the end of the month on February 27, 2010 for our social event, and we votedand decided to do a Cave Walking Tour and Ziplining at Moaning Cavern Park (approx. $54 for both activities). We also went over Fresno’s CCA Cultural Show which will be on Saturday March 13, 2010, and we will be making that a one day event. Anyone who would like to carpool or give rides for either of these events, please email us back as soon as possible.

Additionally, there will be the Oakland Temple re-opening celebrations from March 12-14, 2010 that were discussed as an event. Anyone who would like to attend this, please contact Roz (Rosalind) at rosalind@sacdine.com for further information.

Lastly, we will be making phone calls in the upcoming week for RSVPing purposes, as well as an estimate for the cost when we apply for DOC funding. For those of you who have stated you were able to text, we will reach you that way. For anyone else who we didn’t receive any contact information, or just would like to reply an RSVP to go or not with us could also reply back to this email (If you do not want us to call you about the RSVP for the retreat, you can reply back from this email as well).

Furthermore, new business that were brought up during the meeting such as other fundraisings ideas and events will be discussed in our next meeting with CamSA UC Davis @ Davis on February 17, 2010 at 7pm (room information and direction will be sent out during a later reminder email). CSAS October 22, 2009 Meeting

Written By: Johnny Pang

So today’s meeting went pretty well. the same people showed up and I would like to thank those who did. Basically we’re going to try and work with an NGO (non -governmental organization) in Cambodia and see if there’s anything that we can do to help the citizens of Cambodia to have a better and brighter future, whether how small a task it is. We will try our best.

And I would like to Thank Mr.Ravin Pan for speaking with us about this and bringing it to our attention. Helping others is definitely what we should be doing. Both him and Taam will be trying to put together an introduction letter to an organization in Cambodia that Mr. Pan has previously worked with before. This is in an effort to introduce our organization and to build a connection with them to be able to help them with any thing that they may need. I’m hoping that UC Davis will follow in our foot steps and work with us to make a better future for the citizens of Cambodia.

Next week we hope to have heard back from our contacts from over seas as to if they accept our request to help them and we will be discussing possible ways that we can help. Look forward to starting a committee to handle this task. Please come prepared with your wonderful ideas.

On another note, the HALLOWEEN party is on for Saturday Oct. 31. (next Saturday) and we’ve decided that we will provide all of the food and drinks. What we will do, however, is ask that you help contribute $10 at the door to help recoup some of the costs back. Another alternative is you can bring at least a 6 pack of some “SPECIAL DRINKS” instead of the $10 or you can volunteer to help set up and clean up the party. We will have a sign up sheet for volunteers at next weeks meeting. There will be a limited amount of spaces available for those to volunteer.

We will also need to begin  planning for the trip down to San Diego at next week’s meeting!

In short:

- We will be trying to be in contact with an NGO to help do some Humanitarian work.
- Taam and Ravin will draft an introduction letter.

- We will discuss next week how we can help the NGO.

Halloween Party:
1. pay $10 at the door
2. bring 6pack “SPECIAL DRINKS”
3. OR volunteer to help set up and clean up.

- Discuss details regarding Trip to San Diego on Nov. 6-8

Khmer Student Coalition Conference 2009
Last to register is Sunday, October 25, 2009. Click Here to register.

Here’s the plan:

Leave Friday Nov. 6th early afternoon: get there, settle in, and go out.
Saturday Nov 7th: conference from 8am -10pm. (then go out)
Sunday Nov. 8th: leave San Diego, go to Long Beach and get some Lunch in Cambodia Town, come home. Be back by around 9-10 pm at sac state.

Early afternoon depends on the last person’s class time. Some people have told me that they have class until 1pm. which would be perfect. It all depends on you guys, so the earlier you can register, the better prepared we can be. we will definitely try to leave by about 3-4pm at the latest in an effort to get to SD by around 9pm for a pre-conference party.

Transportation will be in the form of a rental vehicle. We are trying to get DOC funding for the van but we’ll see. If no DOC funding is available for us, then we’ll all need to chip in for the vehicle and gas.
