Cambodian Student Association at Sacramento State presents Culture Show 2011!
The theme of the night is “Cultural Catalyst” which features a Cambodian version of “The Wizard of Oz.” It starts off with a young Cambodian man who goes on a journey to find himself and a home in the United States, which is unfamiliar to him. He then meets a Westernized American (the Scarecrow) who accused Jory of stealing. This caused Jory to become cruel and bitter towards his culture and the people around him. To fit in with the rest of his peers, he changed himself to be more Americanized. It then all shifted once he met a Hip-hop, urbanized youngster who brought Jory back to his roots. Jory finally finds the courage within himself to be proud of his Cambodian heritage, similar to the Cowardly Lion. Throughout the show, Jory wears red shoes that belonged to his father who died during the Khmer Rouge.
